This past week, I drove almost 500 miles up the coast to a resort called the Bar Harbor Inn in Bar Harbor, Maine. It sits right next to Acadia National Park, the only national park on the east coast of the United States. The whole area is beautiful. Plus the fact that your knee deep in the best lobsters in the world, some great weather and some very scenic surroundings and you have the makings for a great vacation. Above is a shot of the hotel I stayed in, from the deck of a schooner called the Margaret Todd. |
There are dozens of islands like the one above surrounding Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, most of which are privately owned. The park and resort themselves are on an island called Mt. Desert Island. Im not sure why they call it a desert island, but the Mt. part comes from the two tall peaks, the tallest Cadillac Mountain, over 1,500 feet high. |
This is the Margaret Todd. We went sailing on her for 2 hours. The scenery was very pretty, however the wind was icy cold. Every time the ship turned everybody ran across the deck to get on the sunny side of the boat. It was shocking, the cold. On land it was a warm and beautiful day, but out in the ocean it was cold and windy. |
These are some of the lobster boats that were in the water. All of the little buoy's are markers for the lobster traps. Lobsters are Maines biggest business, and you cant go anywhere along the coast without being reminded of that. |
