Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park
The real attraction though at Bar Harbor, Maine is the Acadia National Park. I saw alot of wild life there including a Bald Eagle. Unfortunately I only caught a glimpse of it for a couple of seconds, so I dont have a picture of it here. But I was shocked at how big it was! This is just one of the many lakes that dot the park.
Thunder Hole Acadia National Park
This is Thunder Hole, a big attraction in the park. All it is is a chasm that has been carved out by the ocean, into a peculiar shape, that when the waves from the sea come in at a certain height, makes a noise like really loud thunder. It wears thin fast, especially trying not to slip on the rocks, let your camera get wet etc... But the area is so beautiful and rugged that it is worth the effort to go and see.
Acadia National Park
I took this picture right near Thunder Hole. Actually, I took hundreds of pictures throughout the park, but am only including several here. Maybe later I will put more in another part of the journal. Most of the island is made up of large granite rocks, the result of the mountains being volcanic. I should point out though that parts of the island have been carved as if by a knife by the glaciers from past ice ages.
Cadillac Mountain Acadia Park
This is a view from the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest mountain in the park. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure they said it was the highest peak on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. It was really pretty there, but you have to be very careful to stay on the paths and not to step out of bounds. There are signs everywhere saying not to walk off the paths. The reason for this is that the plant life gets trampled, and the mountain erodes quicker.
